To Be and to Act as One Body

The Society has recently called us “to act as one body…” moved from its center by Love. Within this body, life flows, weaving different kinds of connections, bringing energy and flexibility to each part. What affects one of these parts affects the whole body.

It was a great sacrifice for Sophie to allow Philippine and her companions to go to the New World, but she realized how important it was to respond to the calls of the Church and the world. Sophie understood that Philippine and her companions would remain part of the one body of the Society. The Cor Unum was made stronger through their mission in another part of the world and the correspondence between France and the New World. Although Philippine often had to wait for months before hearing from France, her loyalty to Sophie and the Society led her to maintain the sense of one body at all costs, even when decisions contravened her own wishes. Her humility and desire to follow the Spirit allowed her to “let go,” to yield to the opinion of others, but when the oneness of the Society was at stake, she was adamant.

Philippine must be very happy with the Chapter’s call to unity, especially when she sees our efforts to answer it in the concrete circumstances of our lives. May she intercede for us to enable us to grow as one body in our relationships with one another and with our God, who calls us to be of one mind and one heart in the Heart of Jesus.

Ser y actuar como un Solo Cuerpo

Recientemente la Sociedad nos ha llamado a “actuar como un solo cuerpo…” movido desde su centro por el Amor. En él, la vida circula en diversas formas de interconexión, dando energía y flexibilidad a cada parte; y lo que afecta a cada una de esas partes, afecta a todo el cuerpo.

Fue un gran sacrificio para Sofía permitir que Filipina y sus compañeras fueran al Nuevo Mundo, pero se dio cuenta de lo importante que era responder a las llamadas de la Iglesia y del mundo. Sofía comprendió que Filipina y sus compañeras habrían continuado a ser parte del solo cuerpo de la Sociedad. El Cor Unum se hizo más fuerte a través de su misión en otra parte del mundo y de la correspondencia entre Francia y el Nuevo Mundo. Aunque a menudo, Filipina tuvo que esperar meses antes de tener noticias de Francia, su lealtad hacia Sofía y la Sociedad la llevó a mantener el sentido de un solo cuerpo a cualquier precio, incluso cuando las decisiones contravenían sus propios deseos. Su humildad y su deseo de seguir al Espíritu le permitieron “dejar ir”, para ceder a la opinión de los demás, pero cuando estaba en juego la unidad de la Sociedad, era inflexible.

Filipina tiene que estar muy contenta con la llamada del Capítulo a la unidad, especialmente cuando observa todos nuestros esfuerzos para responder a esta llamada en las circunstancias concretas de nuestras vidas. Que interceda por nosotras para que podamos crecer como un solo cuerpo, en nuestras relaciones recíprocas y con nuestro Dios, que nos llama a ser una sola mente y un solo corazón en el Corazón de Jesús.

Être et Agir comme un Seul Corps

La Société nous a récemment appelées à « agir comme un Seul Corps », animé depuis son centre par l’Amour. En lui, la vie circule en différentes formes d’interconnexion, donnant énergie et souplesse à chaque partie ; et ce qui affecte chacune de ces parties affecte tout le corps.

Laisser Philippine et ses compagnes partir au Nouveau Monde a été un grand sacrifice pour Sophie mais elle a réalisé combien il était important de répondre aux appels de l’Église et du monde. Sophie a compris que Philippine et ses compagnes feraient toujours partie du seul corps de la Société. Le Cor Unum a été renforcé par sa mission à l’autre bout du monde et par la correspondance entre la France et le Nouveau Monde. Bien que Philippine ait souvent dû attendre de longs mois avant d’avoir des nouvelles de France, sa fidélité à Sophie et à la Société l’a amenée à préserver à tout prix le sens d’un seul corps, même si les décisions à prendre allaient à l’encontre de ses propres désirs. Son humilité et son désir de suivre l’Esprit lui ont permis de « lâcher prise », de céder à l’opinion des autres, mais lorsque le caractère unique de la Société était en jeu, elle était inflexible.

L’appel à l’unité du Chapitre doit rendre Philippine très heureuse, surtout lorsqu’elle voit nos efforts pour y répondre dans les circonstances concrètes de nos vies. Puisse-t-elle intercéder pour nous, afin que nous puissions nous développer comme un seul corps, dans nos relations les unes avec les autres et avec notre Dieu, qui nous appelle à être un seul esprit et un seul cœur dans le Cœur de Jésus.
